Define the reason for replacement
Price, availability, composition requirements and production results lead to different selection criteria. Record exactly what needs to improve and which characteristics must be maintained.
Changing several ingredients at once makes it harder to identify the cause of the result. The trial plan should make it possible to distinguish the effect of each change.
Gather the baseline information
- Name and specification of the current brand.
- End product, formulation and dosage.
- Equipment, order of addition and key processing conditions.
- Acceptance criteria: flavour, texture, yield and other required parameters.
- Raw material documentation and labelling requirements.
Agree the trial plan
Before starting, define a comparable control, trial batch volume and method for recording results. A useful report includes actual processing conditions, changes made, observations and the responsible food technologist's conclusion.
A successful trial batch result needs to be linked to a specific brand and its documents. Agree which deviations are acceptable and how subsequent batches will be assessed.
Move from trial to procurement
Include the agreed name, characteristics, pack size, volume and planned consumption date in your first delivery enquiry. This helps maintain the connection between the technical decision and the commercial order.
GEO FOOD TRADE offers selection by specification and technical support for trials and applications. Sample availability and terms are discussed separately for the selected product.
